Are Dumbbell Curls Useful For Toning Your Arms?

Many exercise experts have conflicting stances on the best exercises for getting toned arms. Has all the conflict left you in a state of confusion? I remember how it left me pretty confused.

After all, if the experts are having a hard time reaching a consensus, how are you supposed to make a decision?

The good news is that I’ve already dealt with this issue. And I’m ready to share my findings after years and years of research.

Thus here is my critique of curls with palms forward for eliminating bingo wings:

1. Snap shot summary: This exercise mainly focuses on the outside portion of your biceps in your upper arm area. It also does a great job at working the biceps through its entire range of motion-few exercises do this effectively.

2. How to do it: Stand erect with dumbbells in each hand. Keep your arm straight and palms facing forward. Keep your abs tight and raise both dumbbells. Then lower them in a controlled manner, repeat.

3. Common errors: Allowing the upper body to hunch forward. Bringing the dumbbells too high with forces the elbows to rise excessively. And heave hoeing the weights up.

4. To do or not to do: I strongly recommend this exercise for every women wishing to get all around toned arms. It’s an excellent exercise for toning the biceps. And although arm fat usually doesn’t hang from the biceps, it’s still the first muscle someone will see when greeting your from the front. So don’t neglect it!

Learning the best exercises for arm fat reduction shouldn’t be like finding a needle in a haystack. Ignore the marketing hype and all the flashy gadgets-stick to what works! And remember that intensity is by far the most important factor for sexy arm success. Even when doing mediocre exercises, if you apply the right amount of intensity you’ll get good results.

The majority of change in your body will happen when you train on the fringe of your abilities. In other words, the more time you spend training at your limit, the more weight you will lose.

The main issue here, however, is that many people don’t like pushing themselves to the edge. Instead, they would rather remain within their limits even if it means being stuck with a body they don’t want.

So here is how to take your workouts to the next level:

1. Break out of your routine: We are creatures of habit, and exercise is no exception here. So trying something entirely new may seem daunting and a major pain. But if you venture out of your comfort zone and push your body in ways that it hasn’t been pushed before, you will notice some major changes.

2. Delineate your fear: By outlining, writing and delineating your fear, it will lose most of its power. You see, when you let fear float around in your head, it gets magnified many times over. So make sure you write it down and take an objective view of it.

3. Train in your mind’s eye: Visualization works, research has proven this time and again. And not only does it provide psychological advantages, but it also primes your nervous system for the next level of training. So make it a habit to visualize the next level right before you are about reach it.

4. Don’t jump into it all at once: If you prefer tackling the next level one step at a time, then by all means do so. This is much better than simply never changing. By doing things one at a time, you will be able to transition with ease.

5. Tap into your social support: Having social support is a great way to empower yourself for changing. You see, we are all social beings and tapping into social power is a great way to get to the next level. Even better, enlist a training partner that is already at the level you seek.

Caution: Don\'t Do Tricep Kickbacks If You Want Defined Arms

There are certain arm toning exercises that should be a staple in your program. And there are certain exercises that you should stay away from like the plague. Unfortunately, many women are consistently doing exercises that they should be avoiding.

How did this happen?

Well, I believe we have a case of tradition overshadowing modern science. It seems as though certain fitness experts have been recommending specific arm exercises for so long that most women simply do them without any questioning.

Luckily for you, I’ve done all the research and I’m ready to share my findings because I believe that getting sexy and toned arms shouldn’t involve the risk of injury.

So without further delay, here is my review of triceps kickbacks for getting toned arms:

1. Summary: This is probably the most overrated triceps exercise out there, seriously. I think this exercise is a waste of time for two main reasons. First, exercising one arm at a time is extremely inefficient. Second, you can’t use heavy weights when doing this exercise. And heavy weights are critical for the fastest arm toning.

2. Technical snapshot: Place one of your hands on a support structure like a bench. Lean forward with your knees slightly bent and keep your back straight. Grab a dumbbell with your free hand and align it with your torso. Bring the weight up by straitening your arm. Then slowly return it to the starting position, repeat.

3. Frequent errors: Heave hoeing the weight up and down. Allowing the elbows to shift around. And not going all the way up and all the way down with the dumbbell.

4. Final word: I know a lot of women do this exercise and a lot of trainers recommend it, but this doesn’t mean that you should do it. In fact, this is the most overrated exercise for toning the triceps area.

Doing ineffective arm toning exercises is extremely demoralizing because you won’t get results. You’ll feel like you’re going around in circles. And without results, you’re more likely to quit. So make sure you stick to what works and disregard everything else, even if everybody is doing it, good luck!

2. Carb tooth satisfaction. Some women love carbs. And with a high carb diet you don’t have to feel deprived. Just make sure that your sticking to whole grains.

3. Retention of definition. Your muscles store carbohydrates in the form of glycogen. Every gram of carbohydrate that gets pulled into your muscle brings along 3 grams of water with it. So on a high carb diet your arms should look tight and compact, not jiggly and loose.

4. Amazing workouts. Your muscles work at maximum capacity when there is enough carbohydrate to go around. In contrast, working out while on a high protein diet will be mediocre at best.

Despite the benefits of high carb diets for getting rid of bingo wings, there are also many downsides. For the most part, women wishing to get fast results should NOT follow a high carb diet. I have found that moderate carb diets work best when done the right way. So stay tuned and don’t miss any of my reviews!
